Welcome back, in today’s post I wanted to talk about inspiration, how we get inspired, and how can you find your inspiration. If there’s something that gets you inspired whether it be a musician, artist, writer or perhaps a hobby or habit you have, I’d love to hear it in the comments!
Inspiration is something that I think many people know the basic definition of, as it’s a feeling we all have at some point in our lives. But, I also think it’s a topic misunderstood by a lot of people as well. Inspiration isn’t just something that gets you to want to create, it is something that makes creating that much better. When we want to say that a work of art is beautiful, we say it’s inspired. When we say a work was influenced by some other work or period or whatever else, we say it was inspired by it. When we want to say we feel the need to create some kind of art, we say we’re inspired. Every word has different meanings in different contexts and the word inspiration is no different, but I’d like to lay a general definition down:
The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
How did I find inspiration?
For me, personally, I got my inspiration from first finding myself, because when I knew myself I started to realize what my interests were and by extension I learned where I could gain inspiration from and where I can use it. And I started consuming the food I like, visiting places in my town that I like, watching more sunrises and sunsets, watching and reading other bloggers and vloggers I like, YouTubers, influencers, reading books I like and so on. In general because I found myself I could focus on the things I love and thus get more inspired.
After each line there is an “I LIKE”. And that’s the most important thing. Because when it comes to finding inspiration, only YOU have to like the things that inspire you, even if objectively other people find them weird or cringey (does Twilight inspire you? that’s amazing, don’t let that go). Don’t let anyone hinder your inspiration, not your mom, your dad, your sister, your brother, your best friend or anyone else.
I like sunsets and I will go out when there’s a sunset and watch it, also take a picture of it and put it on my story. Because I want to share one of my inspirations with others. But if you don’t like that, that’s totally ok. You don’t have to. I do the things I do to inspire myself, and I think everyone should do what they like to inspire themselves as well.
I’m not saying there’s no inspiration in doing something you don’t like or in having bad experiences. Bad experiences can inspire anger and frustration and inspire us to use those emotions to create something beautiful. Doing something we don’t like isn’t always a good thing but is sometimes necessary, and even that experience can inspire us.
How do I use my inspiration?
I use my inspiration for literally every single thing in my life:
- Writing my blog posts
- Filming YouTube videos
- Interacting with people
- Going out
And a ton of other things. I find my inspiration in everything, as I also think you can get inspired from the little things not just who you are and other more big picture type thinking. Inspiration doesn’t always have to be something grand, it can be something small and meaningless to others but priceless to you.
Personally, my advantage is that I am inspired by things that will never be wasted. They are priceless (e.g. sun, light, water, heat, moon, …). And I always try to find my inspiration in these sorts of things. Because if you find your inspiration in your phone for example, it can be broken and you won’t have it anymore. In general I’ve always been skeptical of finding inspiration in material possessions or status symbols because I like my sources of inspiration to be constants that I can keep coming back to. I won’t be able to get inspiration from material things like my phone or a car forever. But if your find your inspiration in the sun, it will never stop existing. So that your source of inspiration will never stop flowing. And that keeps me alive.
But of course, different people have different ways of finding inspiration and my logic and inspiration may not make sense to you and that’s okay. Maybe you find inspiration in art or books or maybe even jewelry and cars and that’s okay as long as you feel you are yourself and aren’t hurting others.
How can you find your inspiration?
Step 1: Find yourself
Step2: accept yoursel
Step3: Do the things you love and that make you happy
Step 4: Explore
